THE PORTFOLIO

A keepsake-scientific record, not an art notebook

What students build

A personal Field Journal, page by page

Each student fills their own portfolio with painted botanicals, hand-lettered labels, field sketches, favorite found facts, herbal recipes, and pressed treasures from our garden.

Additional print-outs and classroom notes are layered in like a collage —so every page becomes a personal record of the plants and discoveries that sparked our interest that year, and resulted in a personal connection.

While creativity is woven throughout the class, science is always the foundation. As we slow down and truly notice the natural world, curiosity, thoughtful observations, and beautiful journals become a natural byproduct.

Field Journals in class are inspired by the practices of naturalists, botanists, and explorers throughout history.
